Dated: 30 December 1954.
This card
is from a street market where I bought it some years ago.
You can see
some symbols of good luck on this card that will help you
to get a Happy New Year.
The four-leaf
clover is an uncommon variation of the common, three-leaved clover.
According to tradition, such leaves bring good luck to their finders,
especially if found accidentally. According
to legend, each leaf represents something: the first is for faith, the second
is for hope, the third is for love, and the fourth is for luck.
The pigs are bringing good luck too. The verb
“zwijnen” (zwijn is the Dutch word for a pig or a wild boar) means ‘having good
luck or fortune’.
The bag
full of coins is the third symbol. A
coin is a potential amulet. Besides, there could be a ‘number one dime’ or
a’lucky dime’ in it.
